I was shocked and sadden to read of Spiders passing. The first time I picked him up on the way home from work , it was a horrible winter snowy day. I never pick up hitchhikers, but the weather was so awful, I stopped and put my window down a bit. I made him assure me he wasn't an axe murderer, and let him in. We developed a wonderful friendship and rode quite a few miles together on my way either to or from work @ the hospital in Ithaca. When he found out I am also a funeral director he was very fascinated with that subject, and he would share his beliefs and experiences. I'm gonna miss seeing him, RIP my friend Spider!

When you gave Spider a lift it was really he who gave you a life. You could not wish for a better conversationalist. His intelligence and optimism brightened the days of those fortunate enough to call him a friend. - Jim Kuehl
